Dr. Jorge E. Traslosheros Hernández
Jorge E. Traslosheros Hernández is a researcher at the Historical Research Institute of the National University of Mexico. He is a national researcher Level 2, Doctor in Latin American Studies by Tulane University, Master in History by El Colegio de Michoacán and B.A. in Sociology by the School of Political and Social Sciences of the National University of Mexico. He has worked as a researcher and teacher in several institutions, such as El Colegio de Michoacán, la Universidad Iberoamericana, la Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo and el Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico City Campus, where he was also head of the Human Studies Department.
Dr. Traslosheros studies the history of Colonial Mexico, particularly in its ecclesiastical, institutional and legal aspects, and his interest spreads to the history of the protection of the human person and human rights. He has published several articles in Mexican and international journals, such as Historia Mexicana, Estudios de Historia Novohispana, Relaciones, Nueva Antropología, Journal of Hispano/latino Theology, Iberoamericana (Madrid, Berlin), Signos Históricos. He is co-author of several text books and author of books for the general public and for researchers. Among the latter, we must mention Iglesia, justicia y sociedad en la Nueva España. La audiencia del arzobispado de México, 1528-1668, (Church, Justice and Society in Mexico. The Archbishopric Court in Mexico) México, Porrúa, Universidad Iberoamericana, 2004; y, La reforma de la Iglesia del Antiguo Michoacán: la gestión episcopal de fray Marcos Ramírez de Prado (Church reform in Ancient Michoacán: the episcopal rule of fray Marcos Ramírez Prado), Morelia, Universidad Michoacana, 1995.
He participates in the seminar on History and Law Research sponsored by the Escuela Libre de Derecho and the Institute for Historical Research of the National University of Mexico. He is also part of the seminar on Church History organized by the same institute as well as the Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, and the international seminar on Mexican Councils, coordinated by Dr. Alberto Carrillo Cáceres at El Colegio de Michacán, and the international seminar on indigenous people and justice in New Spain, sponsored by the Universidad del País Vasco under the coordination of Dr. Ana de Zaballa. He has been a media commentator, in TV and written press, but especially radio.
Dr. Transloheros has been a member of the Technical Council for Graduate Studies in Human Rights at the Universidad Iberoamericana Santa Fe (2000-2004), as well as the Technical Council for Graduate Studies in History at this same university (2001 to Present). He is a member of the editing committee of the journals Estudios de Historia Novohispana and Revista Iberoamericana de derechos humanos. He was awarded a scholarship by Tulane University for a P.H.D. in Latin American Studies in 1994. In 1995 and 1966 he won the France V. Scholes grant for Colonial Mexico research. In 1987 he won a CONACyT (National council for science and technology) scholarship for an M.A. at El Colegio de Michoacán. He won the “Alfil del Rey” award in May 2002 as the best teacher and researcher of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico City Campus.
